INFORMATION: Before a dental implant operation.
Before a surgical operation, it is essential that we receive a new health declaration. Please fill in the reverse of the health declaration and take it with you to the operation.
If you are taking the medicine Warfarin, the INR value must be stabilised before the operation. On the day of the operation, the INR value must be 1.8 or lower in order for us to carry out the treatment. Contact your cardiologist in plenty of time before the operation, so that your value can be controlled.
If you are taking bisphosphonates (e.g. Fosamax), oral surgery can be dangerous. Inform your dentist in plenty of time before the operation, so that we have time to decide how best to proceed in your case.
During some operations, it may be necessary to carry out minor bone augmentation which we could not predict beforehand. The additional cost of this is not included in your quotation.
Operation
The operation will take place at the surgery that you normally attend and you will be given a number of medicines by us before the operation starts:
1. Amimox 2 grams, penicillin
2. Anaesthetic
3. Paroex: mouth rinse to reduce the number of bacteria in the mouth
4. Midazolam: a sedative drug that is optional
Midazolam may not be taken by those with sleep apnoea. If you do take the drug, you’re not permitted to drive a car until the next day. We also recommend that a relative is there to meet you after the operation.
We will wash your face with alcohol (do not wear cosmetics) and cover you with a sterile sheet. The sheet has two important functions: 1) to ensure that no bacteria transfer from your clothing and hands to the area of the operation, and 2) to protect your eyes.
The operation usually takes 20-60 minutes, depending on the complexity.
If you wear dentures, please do not use any denture fixative on the day of the operation.
After the operation, you will be given all the medication you need to take home with you.
